Selected Projects
A selection of platforms, campaigns, and digital infrastructure built over the last decade.
Aware Pakistan
Pakistan's media landscape is dominated by commercial outlets reliant on advertising revenue and political patronage. Independent, non-commercial publishing spaces that maintain editorial independence while publishing progressive content on human rights, gender equality, and social justice are extremely rare. The challenge: build a sustainable publishing platform from nothing - no budget, no team, no existing audience, no institutional backing - that can maintain rigorous editorial standards without ever compromising for money.
Glowmax International Digital Campaigns
Provincial government development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa needed effective digital communications to reach target audiences - youth, educators, community leaders - while operating within strict government communication protocols. The challenge was translating bureaucratic program objectives into engaging digital content without violating clearance procedures, while also measuring real impact in a context where government projects rarely track digital metrics.
The Dotani Digital - Solo Consultancy
NGOs, media organisations, small businesses, and independent professionals across Pakistan and beyond need digital presence that actually works - not just a template that looks good. They need someone who understands both the strategic (what should this site DO) and the technical (how do we BUILD it so it lasts). Most freelancers offer one or the other. The market gap: someone who can handle strategy, design, development, training, and ongoing support for organisations with serious communications needs and limited budgets.
Tribal Post
In 2013, there was almost no independent digital journalism covering the Pakistan-Afghanistan tribal border region from a civilian perspective. Mainstream outlets covered the area only when violence erupted - never the everyday realities: governance failures, education gaps, human rights violations, cultural stories. The region was one of the most difficult media environments in the world: limited infrastructure, significant security risks, no institutional media presence, and almost no professional journalism training available locally.
Frontline Coverage: Operation Zarb-e-Azb Displacement Crisis
When Operation Zarb-e-Azb launched in June 2014, Raza was studying for his MSc in Journalism & Mass Communication at NUML Islamabad. He made the decision to deploy to Bannu - where tens of thousands of displaced families were arriving from North Waziristan - instead of sitting his final examinations. This meant completing the coursework but never receiving the degree. This decision defines the entire career: choose the story over the credential. Choose human impact over institutional validation.
Tribal News Network (TNN) Digital Transformation
Tribal News Network, a digital news platform covering Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the former FATA region, had significant digital infrastructure limitations. The website was not optimised for mobile readers (critical for a region where mobile is the primary mode of internet access), publishing workflows were inconsistent, and the editorial team had limited training in SEO and modern CMS standards. Bilingual operations (Pashto and English) added substantial operational friction.
Digital Safety & Privacy Training Initiative
Journalists covering sensitive conflict, activists under surveillance, and women's rights organisations in Pakistan face acute digital threats. However, standard security resources are predominantly in English, designed for Western threat models, and assume technical fluency. Paid courses are out of reach for at-risk civil society. The challenge: deliver free, actionable, culturally grounded digital safety training in local languages.
Broadcast Journalism & Production (Suno FM 89.4)
Producing high-volume, live, unscripted radio programming on current affairs, civic governance, human rights, and regional culture across Pakistan requires extreme editorial precision, rapid verification, and the ability to articulate complex civic realities under strict broadcast deadlines.
Editorial Website for Independent Media
An independent digital media outlet covering underreported social issues in Pakistan had a broken website requiring manual HTML code editing, taking 8+ seconds to load on mobile 3G networks, and frequently crashing. The editorial team could not publish breaking stories without technical bottlenecks.
Scholarship & Higher Education Mentorship
Talented youth from former FATA, rural KP, and Balochistan face systemic barriers in accessing higher education and international fellowships due to information isolation, lack of professional networks, and absence of application guidance.
